The Kerry Sling Backpack is a modern but timeless design that can hold plenty of items for times when you are on hikes, bike rides, or just jumping onto the subway. The soft structure of this bag will not only mould to your back but the slender design makes it extremely comfortable while wearing. There are two front designs to choose from; a solid front exterior or a unique patchwork style. The back exterior zippered pocket is full-sized and will hold your cell phone or keys keeping them secured and close to your back, so they will not be lost or stolen. Access to the interior of your backpack is quick and easy as there is a zipper on either side of the backpack giving you a choice of entry. The cone cap on the top will keep the side zipper tabs hidden for that added security. The interior of this backpack features a waterproof lining making it easy to wipe out and keep clean, as well as a zippered pocket to secure any other valuables you may be carrying. This design can be easily changed to a sling-style by simply zipping up the shoulder strap and hooking both swivel straps to one D-Ring giving you a comfortable sling option.
The instructions in this pattern are written for leather, vinyl, and cork.
The skill level is listed as INTERMEDIATE.
Leather Exterior
- 5 square feet of leather
OR
- 1 piece of leather that is 41” x 18”
If you are making STYLE B with the pieced front, then you will need 5 scraps of leather that measure:
13” x 5” - 2 pieces 7” x 4” - 2 pieces
9” x 5” - 1 piece
Vinyl/Cork Exterior
- ½ yard of 57” non-directional vinyl
If you are making STYLE B with the pieced front, then you will need 5 scraps of vinyl that measure:
13” x 5” - 2 pieces 7” x 4” - 2 pieces
9” x 5” - 1 piece
Interior Fabric and Interfacings
- ½ yard of 420 Denier waterproof lining fabric - 60” wide.
OR
- ¾ yard of cotton fabric - 44” wide. (NOTE: If you prefer cotton fabric for the interior, then you will require fusible interfacing which is not listed in the materials list)
- 10” x 15” piece of see-through white cotton fabric (ONLY REQUIRED FOR STYLE B)

- Decovil Light - 2 pieces - 3” x 3¾”, 1 piece - 3” x 4⅜”, 2 pieces ⅜” x 7”, and 2 pieces ⅝” x 4”
- 1 - 36” long #5 nylon zipper with pull (strap zipper)
- 2 - 14” long #5 nylon zippers with pulls (side zippers)
- 1 - 9” long #5 nylon zipper with pull (back zipper)
- 1 - 7” long #3 nylon zipper with pull (interior pocket zipper)
- 2 - ¾” D-rings/O-rings
- 2 - ¾” strap sliders
- 2 - ¾” swivel hooks
- 6 - 9.2 mm double capped rivets with short to medium post lengths
